Removing PVC wall cladding can be straightforward but requires care to avoid damaging the underlying wall surface. Here’s how to do it:
Protect the Area: Lay drop cloths to protect the floor and furniture. Remove any switch plates, outlet covers and other obstacles from the walls.
Gather Tools and Supplies:
Utility knife
Pry bar or putty knife
Screwdriver (if screws were used)
Heat gun (optional, for loosening adhesive)
Cleaning cloth or sponge
Bucket
Dish soap
Adhesive Installation: If the panels were installed with adhesive, you’ll need to soften the adhesive for easier removal.
Mechanical Fixing: If screws or nails were used, remove these first.
Locate and Remove: Use a screwdriver to remove screws or a hammer to gently pry out nails. Start from the top and work your way down.
Adhesive Softening: If adhesive was used, gently heat the panels with a heat gun to soften the adhesive. Be careful not to overheat and damage the PVC.
Prying the Panels: Use a pry bar or putty knife to gently lift and remove the panels. Start at a corner and work slowly to avoid damaging the wall underneath.
Adhesive Residue: Remove any remaining adhesive residue with a utility knife or scraper.
Cleaning: Wash the walls with a sponge and warm soapy water to remove any adhesive or dirt. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
